The beach of Pelames, in the municipality of Povoação, on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores, was banned from swimming. The closure was determined for public health reasons, as reported by the Municipal Council.
The decision to temporarily close the beach was made based on the results of the analyses carried out on the bathing waters. The municipality of Povoação acted in coordination with the Health Delegation to implement the measure.
The closure is temporary and aims to protect swimmers while the water quality is not restored. The announcement was made by the municipality to residents and visitors of the region.
