Raquel Pinto, the psychologist who is part of the Foster Care project at Chão dos Meninos, in Évora, explains that to become a foster family it is necessary to go through a psychological and psychosocial evaluation process. This assessment makes it possible to understand if the family is prepared for fostering and what child profile they may be most suited for.
The evaluation process does not end with the family's certification as a foster family. Technical support continues throughout the entire period that the child is placed with the family, thus ensuring the necessary support for both the family and the child.
Raquel Pinto highlights that it is essential to understand if there is structure to receive a child, which involves analyzing the emotional, housing, and social conditions of the candidate family. This detailed analysis aims to ensure that the fostering is beneficial for the child and sustainable for the family.
