The triage of SNS 24 calls that are forwarded to INEM will now be carried out by nurses, in a change aimed at strengthening the clinical component of urgent patient assessment. This change means that the professionals responsible for triaging emergency situations will be specialized nurses.
INEM justifies this decision with the need to strengthen the clinical component of urgent patient evaluation. The entity aims to ensure a more thorough and technical assessment of cases forwarded through the SNS 24 line.
This change is part of the reorganization of emergency medical services in Portugal, where the initial triage of calls plays a crucial role in determining the appropriate response to each situation.
