An inspection operation carried out on September 2 at the Alegro Sintra shopping center, in the district of Sintra, resulted in the immediate closure of a restaurant due to serious irregularities in hygiene, conservation and food safety conditions. During the action, approximately 102 kilos of food products were seized. The intervention arose following complaints and involved two catering and beverage establishments.

The inspection carried out by the Health Authorities identified in the first establishment serious failures, including deficiencies in the HACCP system, absence of pest control measures, problems in food storage, lack of hygiene and absence of personal hygiene products for workers. Failures in the traceability of some products and inadequate storage conditions were also identified.

Given the severity of the situations and the risk to public health, the Health Authority determined the immediate suspension of the restaurant's activity, which may not reopen without express authorization and without all irregularities being corrected. Non-compliance with the suspension order may constitute a crime of disobedience. The PSP will prepare a Police Report to be sent to the Public Ministry.

The operation was conducted by the Police Inspection Brigade of the Sintra Police Division, in coordination with the Sintra Department of Public Health and Animal Welfare, the Amadora/Sintra Public Health Unit, the Sintra Municipal Police, the Tax and Customs Authority and the Sintra Municipal Civil Protection Service. In the second establishment inspected, an administrative offense was detected, and the Tax Authority also identified issues related to the issuance of invoices. The PSP indicated that this type of inspection will continue to be carried out to safeguard the security, public health and tranquility of the population.
