Lito Sousa, 59 years old, left Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein last Tuesday (1st) after three weeks of hospitalization. The hospital discharge to continue treatment against Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease at home was confirmed by his wife, Mila Seidl, to Splash.
The family residence needed to be adapted to receive a structure similar to that of a hospital environment. The preparation included the installation of equipment that guarantees permanent assistance to the patient, allowing continuity in the necessary support.
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is a rare neurological condition, caused by abnormal proteins called prions. At this stage of treatment, care will be specialized in palliative care, which seeks to provide comfort during medical follow-ups.
The disease has no therapy capable of reversing the condition. Lito Sousa will continue with palliative treatment at home, with all the necessary specialized support.
