Bank deposits in Portugal reached a new all-time high in July, with the amount of new deposits reaching unprecedented values. This growth represents a reversal of the downward trend observed in previous months.
The average interest rate on these deposits settled at 1.59%, having recorded a rise compared to the previous period. However, this value continues to be significantly below the inflation rate, which means that depositors' purchasing power is being eroded in real terms.
This situation reflects the current economic context, where interest rates offered by banks do not keep pace with the inflation rate, negatively affecting the returns of savers who choose to invest their savings in traditional bank deposits.
