The Portuguese Navy, through NRP Sagitário, the Maritime Police with two high-speed vessels and the Authority for Food and Economic Security (ASAE) carried out yesterday, September 2, an inspection operation directed at fishing activity in the Algarve.
The operation aimed to ensure compliance with current legislation regarding fishing activity at sea and to reinforce the assessment and communication of risks along the food chain.
Nine professional fishing vessels were inspected, two of which were in a situation of presumed infraction.
The mission made it possible to strengthen the coordination and cooperation between the inspection entities, contributing to a more effective action in the protection of marine resources and in safeguarding food safety. Eleven Portuguese Navy servicemen, five Maritime Police officers and twelve ASAE inspectors were committed.
