The Supreme Federal Court rejected an appeal filed by the State of Piauí and upheld a compensation of R$ 25 thousand for a patient who became infertile after undergoing a cesarean section. The decision was made by the court's ministers, who upheld the initial understanding.
The original sentence was handed down by the Court of Justice of Piauí, which ordered the State to pay the amount to the patient. The state government of Piauí appealed to the STF seeking to overturn the decision, but was unsuccessful.
The case involves a woman who suffered medical complications during the cesarean procedure, which resulted in her infertility. The compensation amount was fully upheld by the Supreme Court.
With the STF decision, the State of Piauí is required to pay the R$ 25 thousand to the patient, with no possibility of further appeals on the matter before the Supreme Federal Court.
