The president of the Municipality of Coimbra, Ana Abrunhosa, announced that the municipality is preparing an application to PTRR – Portugal Transformation, Recovery and Resilience to create a business zone in Souselas, in an area of at least 400 hectares already classified in the Municipal Master Plan for business location. The announcement was made during the ceremony of laying the first stone of the new SRAM factory, an estimated investment of 57 million euros.
The future business area aims to take advantage of the planned and ongoing investments in the main infrastructure of the region, including the requalification of IP3 between Penacova and Coimbra as a motorway, the completion of the connection of A13 to IP3, the High-Speed Line and proximity to A1. The application is being prepared in coordination with the municipalities of Mealhada and Cantanhede, taking into account the existing railway connections and logistical conditions.
Ana Abrunhosa stated that she intends to present the application during this month to the president of the Commission for Coordination and Regional Development of Centro and to the Government. The president also mentioned that there is currently demand from investors interested in establishing themselves in Coimbra, associating this interest with the municipality's geographical location and the proximity of higher education institutions.
In addition to the new business zone in Souselas, the municipality plans to expand the Industrial Zone of Eiras and revitalize the Industrial Zone of Pedrulha, coordinating the return of industrial activity with the creation of housing in the vicinity.
