The devastating floods that hit Nepal on August 26 have so far caused 1,259 deaths in the country, according to the authority responsible for emergency situations. The number of missing has surged in the last 24 hours, exceeding 5,000.

On the Chinese side, in the Tibet region, state media reported 21 dead and 541 missing. The provisional toll in both countries now totals 1,280 dead and 5,624 missing.

Among the missing are hundreds of foreigners, suggesting a significant impact on the tourism sector of the affected region.

The situation continues to evolve, with authorities updating the death toll almost daily, as rescue and search operations continue in the worst-affected areas.
