Establishment in Agualva suspended after inspection detects unfit food

Correio de Sintra3 September 2026 at 16:06

The Sintra Police Division of the PSP carried out two inspection operations in coordination with several entities, including Sintra Municipal Police, the Amadora/Sintra Public Health Unit, the Sintra City Council's Department of Public Health and Animal Welfare, and Sintra Municipal Civil Protection Service. The actions resulted in the seizure of dozens of kilograms of food products without legal conditions or unfit for consumption.

In the first establishment inspected, in the Algueirão area, which according to authorities has been the scene of insecurity incidents throughout August, approximately 38 kilograms of food products lacking the required legal conditions were seized, namely raw milk and sugarcane used in artisanal juice production. Bottles of alcoholic beverages were also seized due to lack of tax stamps and a jug containing an artisanal spirit drink without sanitary control.

In the second establishment, in the Agualva area, agents detected containers with pastry products and bread totally devoid of labeling, freezing date indication, or expiration date, making traceability impossible. Part of the products showed evident signs of deterioration and freezer burn. The Veterinary Authority and the Public Health Authority considered the 56.396 kilograms of seized products unfit for human consumption and likely to pose a risk to public health, and they were destroyed on site.

The Public Health Authority ordered the immediate suspension of all activity at the Agualva establishment, with reopening conditioned upon correction of all irregularities and a favorable new inspection.
