Ukrainian combatants interrupt activity in the war against Russia to get married at the front: 'Life goes on'

extra3 September 2026 at 15:31

Two Ukrainian combatants interrupted their activities in the war against Russia to get married by a river, near the battlefront in eastern Ukraine. The marriage represented a moment of pause in the conflict that has dragged on for years between the two countries, demonstrating that even amid the violence, significant life moments continue to happen.

The ceremony combined Slavic pagan traditions with elements of Orthodox Christianity, following the ritual called "Mysteriya," which was revived by the Azov Brigade to mark the most important moments of the military unit. The ritual serves as a formal ceremonial framework for weddings and other significant events among the combatants.

The commander of the brigade where the newlyweds serve, Dmytro Rogoziuk, spoke about the importance of the event. According to the France Presse agency, he explained that the military organism has been at war for many years, and that his brothers-in-arms are constantly in conflict. Rogoziuk highlighted that events like this demonstrate that not everything ends with war and that life goes on, regardless of the combat circumstances.
