The Republican National Guard intercepted nearly 8,500 drivers with alcohol in their blood during the first seven months of the year. This number specifically refers to drivers who were identified driving with blood alcohol levels above the established legal limits.

During the same period from January to July, 8,856 crimes related to blood alcohol levels were recorded. This data demonstrates the extent of the problem of driving under the influence of alcohol on Portuguese roads during this period.

The GNR is the police force responsible for this enforcement on the roads of mainland Portugal. Blood alcohol control operations are part of the road safety actions carried out by this police force throughout the year.
