Over 94 kilos of food seized in inspections in Agualva and Algueirão

Sintra Notícias3 September 2026 at 15:43

The Sintra Police Division of the PSP carried out two inspection operations in coordination with several entities, which resulted in the seizure of over 94 kilos of food products without legal conditions or considered unfit for consumption. The actions involved Sintra Municipal Police, the Amadora/Sintra Public Health Unit, the Department of Public Health and Animal Welfare of Sintra Municipal Council, and Sintra Municipal Civil Protection Service.

At the establishment inspected in the Algueirão area, which has been the scene of insecurity episodes throughout August, approximately 38 kilos of food products lacking the legal conditions required for commercialization were seized, namely raw milk and a significant quantity of sugarcane used in artisanal juice production. Alcoholic beverages were also seized for lack of tax stamps, as well as a jug containing a spirit beverage of artisanal manufacture, without sanitary control and traceability.

At the second establishment, in the Agualva area, officers detected containers with pastry and bread food items completely lacking labeling, freezing date indication, or expiration date. Part of the products showed evident signs of deterioration and freezer burn. A total of 56.396 kilos of products were seized, destroyed on site, considered unfit for human consumption and likely to pose a risk to public health.

The Public Health Authority ordered the immediate suspension of all activity at the establishment in Agualva, with reopening conditioned upon the correction of all irregularities and a new favorable inspection.
