Azorean Parliament marks 50 years of the first session

The Azorean parliament is marking the 50th anniversary of the first session of regional autonomy for the archipelago. The celebration marks five decades since the region obtained its autonomy statute.

Among the figures present at the celebrations are Aguiar-Branco, Reis Leite and Francisco Coelho. These former participants in regional political life will take part in the festivities commemorating the historic date.

The leader of CDS-PP, Paulo Portela, and the Prime Minister, António Costa, are among the personalities who will not be present at the special session. The absence of these national representatives contrasts with the presence of former regional politicians.

The regional autonomy of the Azores was achieved 50 years ago, granting the region its own governing institutions, including the Azorean parliament, which now celebrates this historic milestone.
