Nurses now answer calls forwarded by the SNS 24 line to INEM

From now on, nurses will answer calls forwarded by the SNS 24 line to INEM, replacing the pre-hospital emergency technicians who until now were responsible for this triage. This change is part of a reorganization of emergency medical services in Portugal.

The SNS 24 line is the telephone triage service of the National Health Service, which guides users on the most appropriate type of health care for their situation. When the situation is considered serious, calls are forwarded to INEM.

Pre-hospital emergency technicians were the professionals responsible for answering and triaging calls forwarded by SNS 24. With this change, nurses now take on this function.

This change comes in the context of a broader restructuring of emergency medical services in Portugal, seeking to optimize the response to urgent and emergency situations that arrive through this channel.
