The works committee of Seat considered the possible disappearance of the brand unacceptable, after the presumed leak of part of the content of a report that the supervisory board of the Volkswagen group was going to discuss the following day. The report announces the possible end of the Seat brand as part of the restructuring measures of the German consortium.
The publication of this information caused immediate criticism from the trade union representatives of the Spanish company. The German economic weekly WirtschaftsWoche was the media outlet that broke the news that alarmed the entire factory in Martorell.
Matías Carnero, president of Seat's works committee and representative of UGT, made statements to the Efe Agency in which he expressed his position regarding what was published. Carnero considered the content of the information reported by the German publication "unacceptable."
Seat, which has its main factory in Martorell, near Barcelona, now faces a possible deep restructuring within the Volkswagen group, with the real possibility of the disappearance of the Spanish brand as part of the restructuring measures planned by the German consortium.
