A 6-year-old child was the only survivor of a massacre in a luxury penthouse in Mexico City. The boy escaped by hiding under a bed while a killer invaded the residence last Tuesday. The case generated widespread media coverage and public attention in Mexico.
The main target of the attack was Jonathan Meléndez, keyboardist for the indie rock band Camilo Séptimo. When the criminal entered the house, he first shot the nanny in the back. He then forced Jonathan's pregnant wife, Ana Paula Barragan, to muzzle the family dog to prevent its barks from alerting neighbors.
Ana and the couple's younger daughter, Sofi, 3, were then tied up and executed with shots to the head fired from a weapon equipped with a silencer. When the musician arrived home, he found the bloodied bodies of his wife and daughter and tried to confront the assassin, but was overpowered and also shot dead.
The 6-year-old boy, terrified but uninjured, was later found by police at the crime scene. The investigation now seeks to determine the identity and motives of the assassin.
