The municipality of Ourém may gain more than 500 hectares of territory integrated in the Serras de Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park. This territorial expansion represents a significant increase in the area under environmental protection in the Leiria district.

The natural park expansion project is currently in the public discussion phase. Interested parties have until the 21st to present their contributions and opinions on the expansion proposal.

This change comes in the context of a broader review of protected area limits in Portugal, with the aim of strengthening the conservation of nature and the landscape values of the Serras de Aire e Candeeiros, known for their geological richness and biodiversity.
