The Director of Unicef Portugal stated today that banning minors from accessing social media, a measure already adopted in several countries and under discussion in Portugal, does not constitute a solution to the growing number of online sexual abuses.
According to the official, this prohibitionist approach does not solve the underlying problem, which continues to affect an increasing number of children and young people.
The position comes in the context of debates in several countries about the need to protect minors from the dangers existing on digital platforms, including cases of sexual abuse.
