After wave of violence, military police install advanced base in Rio's Southwest Zone to crackdown on gang war

After a weekend of confrontations that left four people dead, the Special Operations Battalion (Bope) of the Rio de Janeiro Military Police set up an advanced base in the Southwest Zone of the city. The action took place on Friday and has no set end date.

The base was installed in a forested area between the communities of Muzema and Rio das Pedras, also near the Itanhangá Corridor, a set of transit roads that borders the region. The camp serves as a base for police movement, who will have access to the trails used by criminal groups to move around and try to invade areas dominated by rival criminals.

The operation aims to combat the war between criminal factions that are disputing territories in the region. In addition to Bope, other units of the Special Operations Command (COE) of the PM are also participating in the action.
