Victims and family members report that they were only contacted once by the Lisbon City Council during this entire period. That single contact occurred when they received the invitation to the inauguration ceremony of the memorial.
Carlos Moedas, the responsible municipal leader, did not respond directly to the criticism made by the victims and their family members. However, he guarantees that the municipality was always present throughout this year, trying to provide follow-up to the situation.
The memorial represents institutional recognition of the victims, at a time when many family members feel that municipal support could have been more constant and closer during the period of mourning and recovery.
