Denmark formally accused Russia of preparing sabotage operations against the country's defense industry. The accusation was presented by the Danish security service, which revealed having identified suspicious activities by Russian agents.
According to the Danish authorities, Russian intelligence services are recruiting ordinary Danish citizens through social media. These individuals are encouraged to take photographs of facilities and infrastructure related to the defense industry.
The images collected by these civilians would subsequently be used to plan sabotage operations on Danish territory. The security authorities did not specify what the exact targets would be nor the number of people involved in the recruitment scheme.
This case arises in a context of growing tensions between NATO and Russia, with several European countries having reported espionage and sabotage activities attributed to Moscow in recent years. Denmark is one of NATO's active members and has actively supported Ukraine in the current conflict situation.
