dnoticias.pt3 September 2026 at 14:07

Funchal will host, between October 2 and 4, the celebrations of the 52nd anniversary of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. The event will take place in parallel with the ATLAS 26 military exercise, thus combining official commemorations with operational activities of the Armed Forces.

The celebrations will have the motto "On the Pearl of the Atlantic, Together for Portugal", a reference to the designation frequently attributed to Madeira. The program extends over three days and will include various military and cultural initiatives.

The main objective of this initiative is to bring the Armed Forces closer to the Madeiran population, allowing greater interaction between the military and the citizens of the region. The choice of Madeira to host these celebrations was made by the EMGFA, although the text of the communique is incomplete at this point.

Marble reveals archaeological treasure: Vila Viçosa wants to "preserve and museumize a Roman quarry"

An ancient Roman quarry has been identified inside a marble quarry in Vila Viçosa, in the Alentejo region, a discovery considered of "great archaeological interest." The existence of the site was known through academic work, but only now has it been possible to confirm its location and dimensions. The municipality held a technical meeting with various entities to evaluate the remains and define preservation strategies, intending to request municipal interest status and, in the future, museumize the space for public dissemination. The main challenge lies in the coexistence of current extraction activity with the protection of Roman heritage, which could contribute to deepening knowledge about marble exploitation techniques in Antiquity and the strategic importance of the region in the circulation of stone to urban centers such as Mérida and Évora.

Banning minors from social media does not solve the growing number of online sexual abuses, Unicef Portugal states

Unicef Portugal warned that banning minors from social media is not the solution to stop the growing number of online sexual abuses involving children. The organization highlighted that last year, more than 20 million children from 21 countries were targets of sexual abuses on the internet, emphasizing the need to invest in digital education, prevention and victim protection instead of simply restricting young people's access to digital platforms.
