Beyond his street situation, Régis faces a crack addiction. The former athlete owns an apartment but risks losing it due to unpaid condominium fees and property taxes. The property is the subject of a legal action. He left the premises after being arrested in 2025 for assault against the building's superintendent.
Currently, Régis depends on the help of local merchants and acquaintances to meet basic needs. Employees at a restaurant near the square usually provide meals to the former player and allow him to use the establishment's bathroom and charge his cell phone battery.
