Generali GC&C and Descartes Renew Strategic Partnership in Parametric Insurance

Jornal Económico3 September 2026 at 13:52

Generali Global Corporate & Commercial (GC&C) and Descartes Underwriting announced the renewal of their long-term strategic partnership, with the aim of strengthening their joint presence in the global market for parametric insurance covering climate and emerging risks. The collaboration, which began in 2019, combines the underwriting capacity, international scale, and knowledge of local markets of Generali's business unit with Descartes's risk modeling, climate analysis, and data technologies.

Parametric insurance is based on predefined triggers — such as the intensity of a weather event, wind speed, or rainfall levels — that automatically activate payment when certain thresholds are reached. The companies stated they will continue to develop customized parametric solutions for business and public sector clients, complementing traditional insurance programs and other forms of risk transfer.

Christian Kanu, Chief Executive Officer of Generali GC&C, stated that the partnership contributes to reducing the protection gap and strengthening the resilience of communities and regions particularly exposed to natural disasters. Tanguy Touffut, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Descartes, described the relationship as "symbiotic, enduring, and unique" in the commercial insurance sector, indicating that the renewal will allow continued joint growth and technological innovation.

GC&C operates within the Generali Group as the Center of Excellence for parametric insurance, serving medium and large enterprises in more than 180 countries, with total gross written premiums of 3.1 billion euros in 2025. Descartes Underwriting, present in more than 60 countries with more than 20 offices across Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and North America, states it has made more than 15 billion dollars in capacity available to its clients.
