Portugal will be subject to three audits in the field of animal health and plant protection during the year 2027. These audits will be carried out by competent entities for the verification of compliance with standards and regulations in these areas.
In the area of animal health, two audits are scheduled. One of them will focus on vector-borne diseases, which are infectious diseases spread by organisms such as mosquitoes or ticks. The second audit will be dedicated to monitoring the sanitary status of Aujeszky's disease, a viral disease that mainly affects pigs and can have a significant impact on livestock production.
In the context of plant protection, an audit focused on the sustainable use of pesticides will be carried out. This audit aims to assess whether Portugal complies with the established standards for the responsible and environmentally safe application and use of plant protection products.
The audits are part of a verification and control program that ensures countries comply with the required standards in these areas, guaranteeing food safety, public health, and environmental protection.
