Ricardo Abrão, Federal Deputy for the Social Democratic Party of Brazil (PSDB) and candidate for re-election, is the target of a Federal Police operation on Thursday to investigate suspected vote buying in Nilópolis, in Baixada Fluminense, during the 2024 municipal elections. A search and seizure warrant was executed against him at his home and personal property.
He is the son of Farid Abrão David, who was mayor of Nilópolis three times and president of the Beija-Flor samba school. Ricardo took office as Federal Deputy in April last year, after the removal of Chiquinho Brazão.
Chiquinho Brazão was convicted in February as one of the masterminds behind the murder of councilwoman Marielle Franco (PSOL) and driver Anderson Gomes in 2018. Ricardo Abrão took office because he was, at the time, the first substitute of the Brasil Union party, to which he was affiliated.
Before that, Ricardo had already served in the Chamber of Deputies when the numerous Daniela Carneiro, who was with Brasil Union, took leave to head the Ministry of Tourism.
