The ADN party, through its representative Eduardo Quintal, presented a proposal for the Regional Government of the Azores, the Republic's Government, and producer organizations to act with the European Commission. This proposal aims to create a system for specific monitoring of the banana sector.
The initiative also proposes that the possibility of including banana in the annex of sensitive products be evaluated, which could provide additional protections to the regional productive sector.
ADN expresses the intention that concrete negative results from the trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur should not be awaited before support measures for the banana sector are implemented.
The party thus defends a preventive posture, instead of a reactive approach that only acts after the effective demonstration of the damages caused by the trade agreement.
