Quercus announced the rejection of the 300 million euro incinerator proposed by the Government for the Algarve, considering that this is not the appropriate solution for waste management in the region. The environmental organization demands that the Executive present studies justifying the need for this infrastructure.
The environmental association advocates, in return, for strengthening waste sorting and selective collection as priority measures to solve the waste issue in the Algarve. These alternatives would be less expensive and more sustainable than building an incinerator.
In parallel, Quercus is preparing a White Paper on Waste, which it intends to present as a reference document for the discussion on waste management in the Algarve region. This document aims to support the organization's position against the incinerator.
