The environmental association Quercus criticized the Government for the decision to build a waste incinerator in the Algarve. The organization considers this to be an anachronistic and inadequate solution to solve the waste problem in the region.
According to Quercus, the construction of the incinerator does not meet the specific needs of the Algarve, which faces seasonal peaks in waste production due to high tourist demand during certain periods of the year. The association argues that other, more sustainable alternatives for waste management in the region should be explored.
