The road to Carvalhais remains closed and, according to mayor Sílvia Silva, the necessary intervention will require significant investment, both financially and in terms of time. The city council has already prepared applications for declaration of storm damage to the Commission for Coordination and Regional Development of the North, but has not received any support so far, a situation that also affects private individuals.
The approaching winter season is becoming an added concern. The mayor explained to VTM that, since last winter to the current summer, the land is very dry, which worsens the situation.
The municipality has managed to resolve some situations, but structural interventions remain to be completed, namely regarding culverts, definitive water routing and drainage systems, which require investments beyond the financial capacity of the municipality.
Sílvia Silva lamented that "there are fundamental works that should be done once and for all" and that "the money is not enough for everything," warning that some of the situations still pending could recur with the arrival of next winter.
