The president of the Lisbon City Council, Carlos Moedas, evoked the victims of the Glória elevator accident one year after the tragedy. The mayor considered this to be "a day for tribute," emphasizing the importance of remembering all those who lost their lives in this incident.

The accident occurred on September 3, 2025, when the Glória elevator, one of the most emblematic monuments of Lisbon, suffered a catastrophic failure that resulted in deaths. The elevator, which connects the downtown area of the city to the upper town, is one of the oldest and most tourist-oriented means of transport in the Portuguese capital.

Carlos Moedas stated that one must never forget "any of the names" of the victims, demonstrating the council's commitment to preserving the memory of the deceased. This commemoration marks the first anniversary of the tragedy that shocked Portugal.

The Glória elevator, built in the 19th century, is a historical heritage of Lisbon and an important tourist attraction. After the accident, authorities opened an investigation to determine the causes of the tragedy and establish responsibilities.
