China demanded that France suspend the new penalties imposed on "ultra-fast fashion," threatening to retaliate against Paris if the measures are not withdrawn. The new fees can reach up to 12 euros per item, mainly affecting Chinese e-commerce platforms.

The companies most directly harmed by these fees are Shein and Temu, two of the largest platforms for selling clothing and accessories at very low prices, which have gained great popularity in Europe in recent years.

The conflict arises in the context of trade tensions between China and the European Union, which has been implementing various measures to curb the massive entry of Chinese products at reduced prices into the European market.
