As car sales in Portugal soared in August, with electric vehicles gaining a growing share of the market. From January to August 2026, 75.6% of new passenger light vehicles registered were powered by alternative energies.
Approximately 26.8% of new passenger light vehicles were electric. This value represents a significant milestone in the transition to sustainable mobility in the country.
In August, the share of electric vehicles in the market reached 36.1%, a substantially higher value than the average for the first eight months of the year. This growth demonstrates an acceleration in the adoption of electric vehicles by Portuguese consumers.
