Scammers are posing as a director of the Hospital de Urgência de Teresina (HUT) to scam families of patients admitted to the health unit. Victims reported receiving messages via WhatsApp with a photo of a man dressed as a doctor, who identified himself as a hospital director and requested money.
The Municipal Health Foundation (FMS), responsible for managing HUT, confirmed that it became aware of the reports made by family members of people admitted to the hospital. The institution warned the population about the criminal action.
According to the information, the amount requested by the fake director was R$ 1,600. The scammers use information obtained somehow about the patients to make the scam more convincing and deceive families during a moment of vulnerability.
FMS reinforces that it does not make collections through messaging applications and advises that any suspicion of a scam be reported to the competent authorities for investigation of the case.
