The Intermunicipal Community of Alto Tâmega and Barroso (CIMAT) participates in the Activa Rural Cross-Border project, a joint initiative between Portugal and Spain that aims to test new responses in the areas of assistance, community health and active aging in rural territories. The project involves 15 Portuguese and Spanish entities.
Between 2026 and 2028, the creation of "Smarthaus Villages" is planned, pilot spaces where solutions to support the elderly population will be tested, including assistive technologies, proximity care and digital inclusion tools.
The initiative aims to address challenges associated with demographic aging, loneliness and social isolation, seeking to facilitate access to services and promote the autonomy of the elderly population in low-density and border territories.
The project represents an eligible investment of 4.49 million euros, within the scope of POCTEP 2021-2027. CIMAT's participation is budgeted at approximately 250 thousand euros, with a co-financing of 187,987.50 euros through the ERDF.
