A magnitude 5 earthquake hit the Tibet region, in China, on Thursday (3), according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). The tremor occurred at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers, with its epicenter located in the Tibet Autonomous Region, also officially called Xizang by China, about 100 kilometers from the borders with Nepal and India.
So far, there is no information about casualties or damage caused by the earthquake. The seismic event occurs amid the consequences of heavy rains and floods that hit the region in recent weeks.
However, the epicenter of the tremor is not near the area affected by the flash flood recorded last week, which caused a trail of destruction. The death toll from the floods continues to rise.
