A 17-year-old Syrian teenager was brutally attacked in the vicinity of the Groupama Stadium, Lyon's stadium in France. The young man had his jaw and nose fractured after being surrounded by a group of approximately 40 masked individuals armed with batons. In addition to the physical assaults, he was targeted with racist insults and death threats. The incident occurred last Saturday, the 29th, during the match between Lyon and Le Havre.
According to the French newspaper Le Progrès, the teenager, who is a high school student, was returning from a futsal match when he was surrounded and beaten in the vicinity of the stadium. Born in Syria, he received 30 days of medical leave due to the injuries sustained in the attack. A complaint was filed with the authorities to record the case.
The attack would not have been an isolated incident in the area that day. Councilwoman Meriem Bouchedda from Rillieux-la-Pape and her partner also reported being victims of assault, expanding the record of violent episodes in the Lyon stadium area during the sporting event.
