North Wales Police arrested four people, 32 years after the death of Doreen Morris, 64, who was found inside her burned bungalow in the outskirts of Holyhead, on the island of Anglesey, in March 1994. The case remained unsolved for decades and underwent a new review that resulted in the arrests this week. A man and three women, all residents of north Wales, were questioned on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
According to police, new forensic results and a detailed analysis of witness statements paved the way for the action. Mark Pierce, the senior officer responsible for the investigation review, stated that the forensic results combined with the detailed analysis of the statements provided grounds to question the four people on suspicion of perverting the course of justice as part of the ongoing review of the case.
Doreen was initially considered a victim of a possible accident, but the investigation later determined that the fire was deliberate. Police believe the four arrested individuals possess relevant information about the case that may help clarify what happened to the elderly woman more than three decades ago.
