PSP closes establishment at Alegro Sintra after detecting sanitary irregularities

Correio de Sintra3 September 2026 at 10:14

The Public Security Police carried out, on September 2, a joint inspection operation at two restaurants at the Alegro Sintra Shopping Center, following complaints filed. The action was conducted by the Police Inspection Brigade of the Sintra Police Division, in coordination with the Sintra Public Health and Animal Welfare Department, the Amadora/Sintra Public Health Unit, the Sintra Municipal Police, the Tax and Customs Authority and the Sintra Municipal Civil Protection Service.

In one of the establishments, the inspection revealed serious hygiene-sanitary and technical-functional irregularities, including non-compliance with the HACCP system, lack of pest control measures, deficiencies in food storage, lack of hygiene and absence of personal hygiene products for food handlers. Approximately 102 kilos of food products were seized due to lack of traceability and inadequate conservation conditions.

Given the seriousness of the situations, the Health Authority determined the immediate suspension of the establishment's activity, which may only reopen after correction of the anomalies and express authorization from the health authorities. Non-compliance with this determination may constitute a crime of disobedience. The PSP will prepare a Report to be sent to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

In the second establishment, administrative offenses related to invoice issuance were identified, with the Sintra Municipal Police and the Tax and Customs Authority being responsible for the respective procedures. Irregularities in self-protection measures were also detected in both spaces, which will be included in reports from the Municipal Civil Protection Service. The PSP announced that it will continue to carry out inspection actions in coordination with the remaining competent entities to safeguard public safety and health.
