The jury concluded that Yorgen Fenech, one of Malta's richest men, is innocent of all charges involving him in the death of investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in 2017. Fenech was suspected of having commissioned the journalist's assassination.

The acquittal verdict was announced after the trial, ending a judicial process that lasted several years. Caruana Galizia was killed by a bomb in her car on October 16, 2017, in one of the cases that shook Malta.

The case involved multiple suspects over the years. In 2021, brothers Alfred and George Degiovanni were convicted as the material executors of the assassination.

Fenech, heir to a prestigious Maltese business family, had been arrested in 2019 as he attempted to flee the island. The acquittal represents an unexpected outcome in a case that attracted international attention.
