One year after the Glória Elevator tragedy, Lisbon inaugurated a memorial in tribute to the 16 victims of the accident. The historic elevator derailed on September 3, 2025, at 6:03 PM, causing the death of 16 people and leaving 24 injured.
The majority of the victims were foreign tourists, with people from 15 different nationalities involved in the accident. The elevator, which is one of the most well-known historical landmarks in Lisbon, overturned during the journey, precipitating the occupants.
The memorial was erected to remember the victims and mark the first anniversary of the tragedy. Family members and local authorities attended the tribute ceremony, which took place one year after the accident that shocked Portugal and the international community.
