One year after the derailment of the Gloria funicular in Lisbon, the STRUP/Fectrans union once again warned of the risks of Carris's maintenance policy. Union leader Manuel Leal considered it "extremely concerning" that there is insistence on outsourcing the maintenance of the public transport company's fleet.
Manuel Leal defended the need to rebuild Carris's workshop sector so that fleet maintenance is carried out internally. According to the union, the decision to use external companies for equipment maintenance represents an increased risk to safety.
The derailment of the Gloria funicular occurred a year ago, raising questions about the safety conditions of the elevators and funiculars managed by Carris. The case prompted recurring calls from workers and unions for a strengthening of the company's internal technical capacity.
