From 254 thousand to 67 thousand hectares: rain helps cut burned area in Portugal by 74%

The burned area in Portugal this year fell 74%, going from 254 thousand hectares to 67 thousand hectares, according to still provisional data from the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF). The significant decrease is mainly due to the occurrence of rain, which helped reduce the extent of forest fires in the country. This value represents a substantial improvement compared to the same period last year, when the fires consumed a much larger area. The ICNF data continues to be updated, as these are provisional numbers that may undergo changes.
