The Korean mosquito that thrives in the cold is already a new European problem

The Korean bush mosquito (Aedes koreicus), more cold-tolerant than Aedes albopictus, can establish itself in some European regions where other invasive species struggle more. It was first detected in Europe in 2008.

A new study, published last month in the journal Acta Tropica, analyzed the existing scientific research on the species. The research identified 334 articles, of which, after removing duplicates and ineligible studies, 91 were included in the analysis.

Most studies were conducted in Europe, with 55 studies focused on surveillance of the species. According to Medical News, one of the main challenges identified is the correct identification of the species, which can hinder the monitoring and control of its spread.
