Czech police have begun the exhumation of Jan Masaryk's body, former Foreign Minister of Czechoslovakia, in an attempt to solve a mystery that has persisted for nearly 80 years. The body was found on March 10, 1948, beneath the window of his official apartment in Prague.
The Czechoslovak authorities of the time concluded that the death was suicide. However, over the decades, various theories and doubts have emerged about the true circumstances of Masaryk's death.
Jan Masaryk was the son of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the first president of Czechoslovakia, and held the position of Foreign Minister in the Communist government that was taking power at the time. The current investigation seeks to definitively clarify the causes of his death.
