The Fair of Light/Expomor 2026 opened its doors in Montemor-o-Novo with 330 exhibitors, remaining open until September 7. The event covers areas such as agriculture, livestock, economy, culture and gastronomy. The mayor of Montemor-o-Novo, Carlos Pinto de Sá, considered that the event demonstrates capacity for growth and has potential to take on an even greater dimension in the coming years, with this objective representing a collective challenge to be met.
The history of the Fair of Light dates back to the 15th century, linked to the economic and social reality of a territory marked by agriculture and rural activity. In 1997, the event was transferred to the current Exhibition Park, with a partnership emerging between the Municipality and APORMOR – Association of Rural World Producers. Carlos Pinto de Sá reaffirmed the commitment to continue deepening this strategic partnership, considering it decisive for the success and growth of the event.
Expomor maintains a prominent position due to its connection to extensive livestock production. The mayor classified it as the largest and best livestock exhibition in the country. The 2026 edition includes a conference dedicated to women working in the agricultural and livestock sector, entitled "Women Farmers — Voices, Experiences and Challenges," which aims to reflect on the female role in rural Portugal and beyond.
Although the agricultural and livestock component continues to be one of the main features, the fair presents a cross-sectional program with concerts, street entertainment, exhibitions, handicrafts, book fair, gastronomy and initiatives for children and youth. The local associative movement also assumes a relevant role in the event's dynamics. For Carlos Pinto de Sá, the challenge is to continue growing the event without losing the connection to the land, history and people of Montemor-o-Novo.
