Hugo Soares considers Chega's motion of censure ridiculous and does not believe the President sends "messages through friends"

SAPO Notícias3 September 2026 at 08:13

Hugo Soares, PSD's parliamentary leader, considered ridiculous the motion of censure presented by Chega. The social-democrat politician expressed this position in public statements about the far-right party's political initiative.

Soares said he does not believe the President of the Republic sends messages through friends, in a reference to possible informal contacts between the Belém Palace and political parties. This statement comes in the context of political tensions and negotiations surrounding the State Budget.

PSD's parliamentary leader also accused Chega of having as its objective bringing down the Government and provoking early elections. This criticism reflects PSD's position regarding the strategy of the party led by André Ventura.

Chega's motion of censure is part of a period of political instability, with the Executive facing difficulties in approving its main budgetary measures.
