Cayuco rescued with at least five migrants deceased off the south of Gran Canaria

Salvamento Marítimo rescued during the early hours of this Thursday the occupants of a cayuco approximately 65 nautical miles to the southeast of Arguineguín, in the south of Gran Canaria. The rescue operation was carried out during the night, when maritime authorities received the alert about the vessel in danger. At least five migrants were found dead during the salvage operation. The rescue is part of the numerous operations that Salvamento Marítimo regularly carries out in the waters around the Canary Islands, one of the main routes of irregular migration from Africa to Europe.
